A black and white film camera - a yellow filter and a giant sculpture in Hopewell NJ
Just outside of Princeton there is a giant that is struggling to emerge from the earth. This giant is a sculpture by the artist Seward Johnson. This particular sculpture is located in the middle of a field on the grounds of the D&R Greenway’s St. Michaels Farm Preserve in Hopewell - New Jersey

The sight of this sculpture is without a doubt an astonishing scene, but at the same time may leave some with a very uneasy feeling to say the least. Nevertheless, I found the whole thing quite amazing and of course being a photographer this sculpture is an unbelievable subject to capture. So I grabbed one of my all time favorite 35mm film cameras, the Pentax K1000, loaded it with Fomapan 200 black and white film and with a 28mm wide angle lens attached to it I headed off to St. Michaels Farm Preserve to see what kind of images I could capture.

So for this shoot I also decide to attach a yellow filter to the front of the lens which for black and white film photography would add a slightly more dramatic look to the sky allowing the clouds to have a greater impact. It seemed to work pretty nicely since the clouds did cooperate for quite a few of my images. This destination is definitely worth it and would also be interesting to revisit at a different time of the year. New Jersey is a small state in size but it sure is a heavy weight in regards to photographic opportunities and this stop is just another shining example.
