About me - My journey into the world of photography begins in 1971, the year I would learn to develop and print black and white photos in my parents basement. Photos taken with my very first 35mm camera - the Exakta VX500 - an extremely simple single lens reflex camera. One of the cameras that would serve me well until January 1974 where at the ripe old age of seventeen I would begin a stint in the photo retail industry that would last some 37 plus years. During those years I had worked for several different camera stores, thereby providing me the opportunity to handle and experience an almost unlimited number of cameras, lenses, film and other photo and darkroom related equipment and accessories. Along with learning, handling and using the various brands and models of analog and digital photo gear, those years as a photographic retail professional allowed me the opportunity to attend numerous classes and seminars as well as meet and interact with so many incredibly knowledgeable people - proving to be a truly invaluable photographic education.
Those camera store years allowed me to experience so many aspects of photography, learning so many new methods and techniques and then putting them into practice, helping to guide me in finding my path as a photographer, both professionally and personally. To this day I still remain heavily involved in photography and continue to experience the evolution that photography is undergoing. A journey that has seen photography move from the era of capturing images on film and the chemical process that accompanied it to one of digital capture with all it's advanced computerized editing and online sharing capabilities. Though after being sidelined but not completely forgotten for many years there is now a resurging interest in film photography which I have once again fully embraced. I love combining the two technologies - capturing images on film, developing the film - then scanning and editing the images in photoshop. Shooting film again has really pushed my refresh button - reconnecting me to my photographic roots.
So be it digital or film, new and traditional methods open many doors in which to express my style and vision. As you view my photos you will see I shoot a wide range of subject matter. So whether I am photographing people, wildlife, landscapes, architecture or candid street scenes - whatever subject presents itself, I strive to capture the moment allowing that moment to become the story.
